June 2023, the motoring and gaming world decended on Donnington Park race circuit for a first-of-it’s-kind event, British Racing Greats.
The event brought together game developers and publishers from across the UK alongside motorsport teams, race drivers, car collectors and some very special motor cars from the past 20 years, to celebrate the best of British racing games, but more importantly, to raise money for two very special charities – SpecialEffect and Solving Kids Cancer UK.
The Gaming world was represented by a virtual who’s who from the last 20 years, with some major players in the industry gladly giving their time to be there, with Sony, Microsoft, EA, Codemasters, Playground Games, Sumo Digital and many other key players among the exhibitors. Cars from collectors all over the UK including rare examples of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Keonigsegg, Porsche and Pagani were out on track alongside cars from racing disciplines from Formula 1through to Rallying.
An exclusive Dinner event was held the night before, graciously hosted by Tom Hartley Junior at his showroom near the track, a spectacular location to kick off the event with a charity auction on the night hosted by Ben “The Stig” Collins.
Ben was back the next day alongside Jodie Kidd to give people hot laps around the track, in-between epic displays from the world of motor racing, and even some track time for a lucky (and brave) few to put their own cars on the track.
In the end, the event raised over £100,000 for the charities and started something really special. next year’s event will build on these foundations, by bringing more people together, extending the reach beyond gaming and motorsport and raising even more for these two very deserving charities.
See you next year!
